OSCE's Desir Reiterates Call On Kiev To Fully Probe Journalist Buzina's Murder 4 Years On

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th April, 2019) The OSCE representative on freedom of the media, Harlem Desir, has urged the Ukrainian authorities to thoroughly probe the murder of journalist and writer Oles Buzina and finally bring to justice those responsible for the crime, which took place exactly four years ago.

"On the 4th anniversary of the murder of journalist and writer Oles Buzina, I reiterate my call on #Ukraine authorities to fully investigate and prosecute both perpetrators and masterminds of the crime. I continue to follow the ongoing trial related to the case," Desir wrote on Twitter.

Ukrainian journalist and writer Buzina was shot down not far from his home in Kiev on April 16, 2015.

He got four bullets, including one in his head. The Ukrainian authorities opened a criminal case under the article "premeditated murder."

Two nationalists were arrested on suspicion of killing Buzina for his alleged anti-Ukrainian sentiments. Buzina, in turn, supported the federalization of Ukraine, its independence and bilingualism that would stipulate the development of both Ukrainian and Russian languages.

The suspects were later released from custody. Following years of court hearings, the prosecutors have only read out charges against them.
