Police Officer Fatally Stabbed In Nizhnekamsk In Southern Russia - Interior Ministry

A man stabbed a police officer to death on Friday outside the police department in the southern Russian city of Nizhnekamsk and was lethally shot by another officer, the regional branch of the Russian Interior Ministry said

KAZAN (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd March, 2019) A man stabbed a police officer to death on Friday outside the police department in the southern Russian city of Nizhnekamsk and was lethally shot by another officer, the regional branch of the Russian Interior Ministry said.

"At around 9:45 a.m. Moscow time [06:45 GMT] today... an unknown man attacked a precinct officer, stabbing him several times in the neck.

A colleague saw the attack and shot twice at the assailant with his service weapon, killing the latter," the statement reads.

Health workers tried to resuscitate the stabbed police officer but he died in the ambulance.

The Interior Ministry in the southern Russian republic of Tatarstan is working to identify the attacker. There were reports that the man escaped a pretrial detention facility but the authorities said they could not confirm this.
