MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd January, 2020) The speaker of the Russian parliament's lower house on Wednesday slammed a story in the US news agency Bloomberg about a possible early election in the legislature as a meddling attempt.
"Bloomberg is an agency [whose reporter] walked around the place [State Duma] asking this question with a goal of tampering with our elections and sowing confusion," Vyacheslav Volodin said at a lower house session.
He said that the Duma had the power to strip the news agency of its accreditation but would not do so, as it was a democratic institution.
The article was published in the wake of Russian President Vladimir Putin's surprise announcement last week that he would seek amendments to the constitution to strengthen the parliament. The government resigned soon after his speech.
