Two police officers and a terrorist were killed by an explosion that occurred in the center of the Egyptian capital of Cairo, the country's Interior Ministry said in a statement.

CAIRO (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th February, 2019) Two police officers and a terrorist were killed by an explosion that occurred in the center of the Egyptian capital of Cairo, the country's Interior Ministry said in a statement.

According to earlier media reports, an explosive device blasted near the Al-Azhar University on late Monday when police officers chased a suspect.

"The security forces surrounded him and after the terrorist was detained, one of the explosive devices blasted," the statement said, adding that the explosion killed the terrorist and two police officers.

The ministry added that the blast had also left three police officers injured.
