A working group on military cooperation was created within the Russia-India intergovernmental commission on defense industry cooperation, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Thursday.
NEW DELHI (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 13th December, 2018) A working group on military cooperation was created within the Russia-India intergovernmental commission on defense industry cooperation, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said Thursday.
"A lot of work has been done to change the structure of the intergovernmental commission. In particular, it now includes a separate working group on military cooperation. Today we will sign a relevant agreement," Shoigu said at the commission's session.
The minister stressed that defense industry cooperation between Moscow and New Delhi was the basis of strategic bilateral partnership, confirmed, in particular, by the recent arms contracts concluded amid external pressure.
"Despite the pressure from some states, a large package of documents and landmark contracts for the supply of S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile systems and the construction of Project 11356 frigates have been signed," Shoigu said.
He also noted that close contacts between the military departments were an important component of cooperation between India and Russia.
