Speakers stress for connectivity, economic integration through CPEC

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Dec, 2016 ) : Speakers in conference on China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Tuesday stressed the need for connectivity and economic integration through CPEC.

A new civilization is emerging by reviving Silk Road through CPEC which would promote harmony and peace, Vice Chancellor of Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) Dr. Asad Zaman said addressing the 32nd Annual General Meeting and Conference on CPEC and Regional Integration organized by the PIDE here in local hotel.

Vice Chancellor PIDE said the next hegemon of the world would be Asia and it would be led by China. Dr Asad said in transitional times, the power is up for grabs and the transition also creates opportunities to redefine the world and it is the scholars who carry the day by redefining the world.

In his secretary's report, Dr. Ejaz Ghani hoped that the deliberations at the conference would prove very helpful in devising strategies for making CPEC successful.

Lead Economist on African Region, the World Bank Vincent Palmade made a presentation on the World Bank's book titled, "South Asia's Turn, Policies to Boost Competitiveness and Create the Next Export Powerhouse".

He said South Asia has the potential to change and Pakistan can play a pivotal role in boosting growth as it has a large market and have immense potential. While delivering the Allama Iqbal lecture on "Role of Productivity, Quality, and Innovations in Making CPEC Work for Pakistan", Mark Goh of the National University of Singapore, said to make CPEC successful, every province must have an industrial park for manufacturing and exporting products.

He reiterated the fact that politics must be left behind to focus on the well being of everyone.
