Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Monday distributed laptops to its 50 students of Faisalabad region, under the government's scheme.
The students of M.Phil and PhD were given the laptops as per the merit-criteria, determined by the Higher education Commission (HEC), a press release on Monday said.
This was part of the phase IV and V of the scheme, under which the laptops were being distributed among other students of the AIOU in various parts of the country.
While addressing the distribution ceremony held at Faisalabad, the Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Zia-Ul-Qayyum hoped the recipients will make best use of the laptops in continuing their future study.
Dr Zia-Ul-Qayyum urged them to utilize their educational gains for serving the nation, so as to pay-back what were being invested on them.
He said the AIOU had achieved a singular distinction of being a mega university in the country in term of enrollment (annual around 1.30 million students) and infrastructure network (44 regional offices). Now it would be focusing on quality by improving its contents' development and delivery mechanism, he added.
According to Director Students' Advisory and Counselling services Rana Tariq Javed a transparent mechanism was adopted while implementing the scheme. The students were also given internet device along the laptops.
The ceremony was addressed by Director Regional Services Dr Inamullah Sheikh and Regional Director Faisalabad Obaid Aslam.
