World Earth Day Observed At UVAS

The Department of Environmental Sciences of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore observed “World Earth Day 2019” with the theme “Protect Our Species” here on Monday in City Campus Lahore

LAHORE (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Apr, 2019 ) The Department of Environmental Sciences of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore observed “World Earth Day 2019” with the theme “Protect Our Species” here on Monday in City Campus Lahore.

The Society for Conservation of Environment and Nature (SCEN) arranged a walk and a seminar to mark the day to create awareness about the importance of environmental protection,educating, mobilizing and activating citizens to control and clean up plastic pollution, save water and control pollutionby planting trees.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof DrMasoodRabbani led the walk while a number of students and faculty members participated.Later a seminar was held in the Prof Pasha Academic Block.Punjab Minister for Environment ProtectionMuhammad Rizwan chaired the seminar whileChairman Sustainable Development Study Centre, Government College University Dr Yasir Abdullah,Dr Sidra Safdar andDrZillay spoke about the importance of the environment.

A large number of students attended the seminar.

Addressing the seminar, EnvironmentMinisterMuhammad Rizwanemphasized to save water, control pollution by planting trees and make better management of solid plastic wasteto tackle pollution& contamination issues to keep our environment clean and pollution free. Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof DrMasoodRabbani said that UVAS took many initiatives in recent years to promote healthy nutrition by introducing flavored milkreplacing soft drinksfor the better health of students. He said that UVAS has always been promoting greenery by planting trees and plants in all the campuses to keep environment pollution free. He said UVAS is working actively along with other departments,Punjab Food Authority and Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab to solve various issues. Later Environment Minister Muhammad Rizwanalong with Pro VC gave away certificates and shields to the resource persons.
