Every effort to be made to safeguard rights of cane-growers: Minister

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Nov, 2018 ) :Punjab Minister for food Sami Ullah Chaudhry on Tuesday said that every effort would be made to safeguard the rights of cane-growers in Punjab.

According to the instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan and the Food department, Punjab would cooperate and facilitate in this regard.

He expressed these views while chairing the meeting of cabinet committee to monitor and address the issues of sugar sector in Punjab.

Provincial Minister for Agriculture Malik Noman Ahmed Langryal, Provincial Minister for Irrigation Mohsin Lagharial, Provincial Minister for Commerce & Industry Mian Aslam Iqbal, Cane Commissioner Punjab Wajid Ali Shah and Chairman Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (Punjab Zone) Noman Khan were also present.

Provincial Minister for Food Sami Ullah Chaudhry said that Punjab Sugar Industry would take steps to start the crushing season from November 15, so both small farmers and mill owners could get benefit.

The minister said the Food department Punjab was pursuing the policy to facilitate the mill owners.

Recently Punjab Food department had got permission from the Federal government to export the surplus sugar of Punjab, he added.

On this occasion, Provincial Ministers for Food, Agriculture, Irrigation and Industry mutually appealed to the mills owners to start the crushing season in time, payments to the cane growers, payment under the government rate 180 rupees per maund and full weight of their crops.

Later, Chairman Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (Punjab Zone) Noman Khan informed the problems facing the sugar mills industry in Punjab.

On which, Provincial Ministers for Food, Agriculture, Irrigation and Commerce Industry assured complete cooperation to redress their problems.
