'Other Provinces Must Adopt Model Of Kot Lakhpath Jail'

LAHORE,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -30th Augst,2016) : National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights and Minorities Chairman Babar Nawaz Khan on Tuesday expressing satisfaction over the arrangements at Kot Lakhpath Jail, asked the other provinces to adopt the same model as employed in the Jail. During a visit of National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights to Kot Lakhpath Jail here, he said that legislation should be in place regarding removal of the code from the educational certificates of prisoners which showed that candidate was appearing in examination from jail. The chairman said the jail administration had put in place effective measures including water filtration plant and Public Call Office (PCO) which enables prisoners to communicate with their family members. DIG Prisons Malik Mubashir briefed the committee members that a special software had been designed in which contact numbers given by the prisoners of their relatives could be saved and this software automatically disconnect the call if it exceeded to 15 minutes time limit.
Regarding prison's rehabilitation process, he said that the prisons department had launched a programme of technical training in collaboration with the TEVTA under which proper training courses would be conducted for jail inmates and they would be given certificates that would be valid in other countries as well. He said that three educational courses including formal, vocational and religious were being carried out for the rehabilitation of prisoners, adding the jail inmates could appear in any examination such as F.A, B.A and others. The committee members inquired about the women prisoners and their children, whereas they also urged all the relevant departments including social welfare to work more effectively for welfare and development of prisoners.
The committee members visited jail's kitchen, hospital ward, daycare centre for children, PCO, ENT ward, pharmacy and other areas.
