Punjab Food Authority Seals 20 Food Premises, Imposes Fine On 71 FBOs

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Wednesday carried out a drive on massive scale against substandard food suppliers, production units and eateries in Punjab.
LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Mar, 2018 ) :The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Wednesday carried out a drive on massive scale against substandard food suppliers, production units and eateries in Punjab.
As many as 20 food premises were sealed and 71 Food business Operators (FBOs) punished with heavy fine tickets of Rs 508,600 due to multiple hygiene issues and not compliance with PFA's instructions.
Following the Director General PFA Noorul Amin Mengal directions, food safety teams under the supervision of Food Safety Officers raided on various food premises to ensure implementation of PFA regulations as well as examined the quality of food which was being supplied in market.
Breakdown the statistics, the teams sealed seven food premises in Multan, 2 in Rawalpindi, 6 in Faisalabad and 5 in Gujranwala over failing to maintain hygienic working environment, use of non-food grade colour in the preparing of sweets, use of rotten vegetables, an abundance of insects in the processing area, usage of blue drums for food storage and other issues.
Apart from that, workers of the food outlets did not have medical certificates. During the daylong activity, PFA's teams imposed Rs 102,100 fine on 10 eateries in Multan division, Rs 18,000 fine on 6 shops in Sargodha, Rs 99,000 fine on 17 food points in Rawalpindi, Rs 79,000 fine on 9 food outlets in Faisalabad and Rs 210,500 fine on 29 food premises in Gujranwala division.
