Senate Body Passes Special Economic Zones (Amendment) Bill, 2016

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Augst,2016) : The Senate's Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat Monday unanimously passed Special Economic Zones (Amendment) Bill, 2016. The committee met here at the old office of Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) with Senator Talha Mehmood in the chair.
Senators Hidayatullah, Kamil Ali Agha, Ms. Najma Hameed, Haji Saif-Ullah Khan Bangash and Chaudhry Tanvir Khan attended the meeting. The committee also directed the board of Investment (BOI) to discuss the matters with the Balochistan government regarding establishment of economic zones in the province. It instructed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to provide details about construction of commercial and residential towers in the Federal Capital.
The committee also discussed the question asked by Senator Chaudhry Tanvir Khan regarding number of commercial plots auctioned by the CDA during the last 20 years, which was referred by the Senate Chairman on July 26.
It expressed reservations over the CDA officials still performing their duties despite facing inquiries in the corruption cases. CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal briefed the committee about the corruption cases against the officers.
Later, representatives of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) also briefed the committee about the cases. The CDA Chairman also briefed the committee about the allotment of a plot to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) by the CDA near IJP Road.
Secretary Cabinet, Secretary CADD, Secretary BOI, Chairman BOI and representative of Balochistan government also attended the meeting.
