Senate, NA Pass Resolutions Expressing Grief Over Asma Jahangir’s Death

Senate on Monday passed a resolution expressing profound grief and sorrow over the death of Senator Haji Saifullah Khan Bangash.
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Feb, 2018) : Senate on Monday passed a resolution expressing profound grief and sorrow over the death of Senator Haji Saifullah Khan Bangash. The resolution moved by Leader of House Raja Zafar-ul-Haq said that Saifullah Khan Bangash was a distinguished politician, seasoned parliamentarian and a renowned businessman.
He made useful contributions in the Senate's discussions. The resolution said that the services rendered by late Bangash will long be remembered. Commiserating with the bereaved family, the house prayed to God Almighty to shower his blessings on the departed soul. The house also passed three other condolence resolutions on the deaths of former Senators Mir Hazar Khan Bajrani and Abdul Majeed Qazi and prominent human rights activist Asma Jehangir. The House also held condolence reference in memory of late Senator Haji Saifullah Khan Bangash. On the occasion, the members paid glowing tributes to the services of Saifullah Khan Bangash.
They said the death of Bangash has deprived the parliament of a seasoned and a highly caliber politician. The members said that Saifullah Khan Bangash always strived to work for the welfare of the people of his area. The chair announced that the house will hold a condolence reference in memory of late Asma Jehangir tomorrow.
Earlier, the Senate began its session at the Parliament House in Islamabad this afternoon with Chairman Raza Rabbani in the chair.
At the outset, the chair announced a panel of presiding officer for the current session. These are Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, Talha Mahmood and Kulsoom Parveen. The house also offered fateha for the departed souls of Senator Haji Saifullah Khan Bangash, former Senator Mir Hazar Khan Bajrani, Asma Jahangir, Qazi Wajid and the security personnel martyred in recent terror attacks. Later the house was adjourned to meet again tomorrow morning at ten. Meanwhile, National Assembly on Monday also passed a resolution recognizing the services of human rights activist Asma Jehangir for democracy, rule of law and constitutionalism. The resolution moved by Syed Naveed Qamar also acknowledged her brave struggle for oppressed segments of society and against rights abuses. The resolution said that Asma Jehangir defended the rights of voiceless, the poor, the downtrodden and dispossessed and spoke out for the victims of violence and against discrimination on the basis of gender and religion. Paying tributes to the struggle of Asma Jehangir, the resolution said that being elected representatives, we are committed to protection and upholding of fundamental human rights.
