World Bank delegation visits water center at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro

A two member delegation of the World Bank comprising of Tazeen Fasih Lead Economist and Ghazala Syed Education Training Specialist visited U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro on Thursday.

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Apr, 2018 ) :A two member delegation of the World Bank comprising of Tazeen Fasih Lead Economist and Ghazala Syed education Training Specialist visited U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro on Thursday.

According to university spokesman, the delegation visited different facilities including laboratories and had interaction with faculty, students, and management of the Center. The members of delegation also met the management and technical team of USPCAS-W MUET and the University of Utah, USA.

The World Bank delegation was briefed about the academic, exchange, research, outreach programs of the Center. While briefing the delegation, Dr. Bakhshal Lashari, the project director of the Center said that the U.S.

and Pakistan government have collaborated to create state of the art centers for advanced studies, and USPCAS-W was one of the three Centers established at Mehran University Jamshoro after competitive process.

The Chief of Party University of Utah (UU) Prof. Dr. Mohammad Aslam Chaudhry said that that working on applied research in water sector was one of the prime purposes behind the establishment of the center at MUET where the faculty and students were being trained through the exchange program and a series of the workshop and seminars conducted thrice a year by UU teams while American universities were engaged for capacity building in terms of writing research papers, using laboratories equipment and filling the research gaps in water sector of Pakistan.

The Deputy Director (Academics and Research) USPCAS-W Mehran University Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar said that on behalf of the Center the partnerships and linkages with industries are being built for collaborative efforts for to meet the water challenges and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) particularly Water SDG-06.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Jeffrey L. Ullman, the technical advisor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Munir Babar, Dr. Kazi Suleman, the research manager, Mr. Shahid Panhwar, monitoring and evaluation specialist and Sahib Khan Bhand, the communication, media and outreach expert of the Center.

The delegation members appreciated the efforts made by the Center management for solving the water problems of the country through applied research and by developing human capital.
