Bangalore, India, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Jun, 2018 ) :Afghanistan were staring at a heavy defeat in their debut Test after they were skittled out for just 109 in a single session on Friday to lie 365 adrift of India, who enforced the follow-on.
Ravichandran Ashwin claimed four wickets to easily break the resistance of the newcomers on day two and leave them on the verge of a chastening rout on their introduction to the five-day game.
Responding to India's 474, Afghanistan's batting collapsed against the bowling of the world's top Test side. They survived just 27.5 overs in the second session in Bangalore.
Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja got Mujeeb Ur Rahman stumped for 15 to complete the rout just as tea was taken.
Ashwin returned figures of 4-27 with his off-spin, while Jadeja and paceman Ishant Sharma took two wickets each.
Opener Mohammad Shahzad was run out after hitting three boundaries before Sharma came on to destroy the Afghan top-order.
Sharma rattled the stumps of opener Javed Ahmadi for one, and wicketkeeper-batsman Afsar Zazai for six, in a devastating first spell.
Fellow fast bowler Umesh Yadav trapped Rahmat Shah lbw for 14 and gave away just 18 runs from his first six overs.
Ashwin bowled Afghan skipper Asghar Stanikzai for 11 with a beautiful off-spinner.
Mohammad Nabi hit the team's top score of 24 to help them past 100.
Earlier Hardik Pandya hit 71 to give India a formidable first innings total after the hosts resumed on 347-6.
Afghan paceman Yamin Ahmadzai stood out with three wickets while fellow quick Wafadar and teenage spinner Rashid Khan took two each.
Afghanistan were awarded full Test status last year along with Ireland, who lost to Pakistan in their debut Test last month.
