Novosibirsk Should Become Excellent Host For Hockey World Junior Championship 2023 - Putin

Russia's city of Novosibirsk should be well-prepared to become a very good host for the Hockey World Junior Championship in 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday.

NOVOSIBIRSK (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 28th August, 2018) Russia's city of Novosibirsk should be well-prepared to become a very good host for the Hockey World Junior Championship in 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday.

"The world championship should be hosted, and it should be done really well. We can do it, we have already proved to ourselves that we can. There should be preparations here in Novosibirsk, for the Hockey World Junior Championship," Putin said at a meeting with acting regional governor Andrei Travnikov.

The acting governor, in turn, said that the city and the whole region were working to get ready for the championship.

"We have begun work on the project papers on the most important aspects so as to prepare to this important international sporting event," Travnikov stated.

The acting governor noted that the construction of a new ice arena would have to begin in the spring of 2019 in order to be finished without unneeded hurry. Travnikov added that the region would cover some of the costs and hold the necessary tenders, but it would need the support of the Federal authorities as well.
