A majority of American voters do not believe that increased funding for a wall along the US-Mexico border is a good enough reason to shut down the federal government, a new Morning Consult poll revealed on Wednesday.
According to the poll, "55% of voters said increased funding for the wall is not important enough for a shutdown; 31% said it was.
"
The poll found that only 22 percent of voters listed funding the wall as a top priority, and most ranked it as the lowest of 10 issues included in the survey.
The White Hosue and Congress have until Friday at midnight to agree on funding bills for several government agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, in order to avoid a partial shutdown of the federal government.
The poll surveyed 1,994 registered voters and has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
