The patrolling of the demilitarized zone in the Syrian province of Idlib, scheduled to start on October 15, has been temporarily postponed at the request of the Turkish side, a source familiar with the situation told Sputnik on Monday.

"Turkey has asked for more time and to postpone the start of joint patrols in Idlib. The Russian side was ready to start this morning," the source said.

According to the source, the Turkish side has cited the security conditions, which it cannot fully guarantee yet.

"We are not sure when the patrolling will begin, perhaps, in the next few days," the source added.
