Russia is not trying to repeat a "Syrian scenario" in Venezuela as the Russian military specialists are simply carrying out regular maintenance of earlier supplied military equipment, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper
"No, we're not trying [to repeat the Syrian scenario] at all.
We stated this publicly, and we have nothing to hide," the minister said, answering the question of whether Moscow was trying to stage a 'second Syria' scenario in Venezuela.
"There is an agreement signed in 2001 with [former Venezuelan president] Hugo Chavez. It was ratified by the national parliament, it is fully legal and meets all the provisions of the Venezuelan Constitution. In accordance with this agreement, we have supplied military-technical equipment to Venezuela. It needs maintenance. It's time now to do it once again. Nothing else," Lavrov clarified.
