50,192 mt paddy seed available against total requirement of 41,385 mt

For the sowing season of Kharif 2019-20 the total availability of paddy seed is 50,192 metric tons (mt) including 2,757 mt imported seeds which is 121.28 percent of the total requirement of 41,385 metric tons

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th Apr, 2019 ) :For the sowing season of Kharif 2019-20 the total availability of paddy seed is 50,192 metric tons (mt) including 2,757 mt imported seeds which is 121.28 percent of the total requirement of 41,385 metric tons.

According to an official data, the availability of total paddy seed was 74,485 metric tons which was 135 percent of the then total demand.

The data revealed that Punjab has 41,975 mt of quality paddy seed which is 174.83 percent of its demand, Sindh has 5290 mt, 39.74 percent of the provincial demand while Balochistan has 170mt seed available which is just 5.62 percent of its demand.

The sowing of Maize crop in 2019-20, public and private sector seed agencies procured about 32,599 mt of maize seed including 7799 mt imported seed which is around 112.

83% of total requirement of 28,892 mt. While the maize seed availability, during the year 2018-19, was 32,599 metric tons which was 98 percent of the total demand, the data informed.

The availability of maize seed in Punjab is 24567 mt, 144.77 percent of its demand whereas Khyber Pakhunkhwa has 234 mt, which is 1.99 percent of its provincial demand.

Moreover, the data informed that for the sowing of Kharif crop of Mung bean 2019-20 the total seed availability is 1401 mt which is 32 percent of the total requirement.

The public and private sector seed agencies of the Punjab have procured 1261mt Mung seed, 32.35 percent of its requirement while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has 140 mt which is 62.25 percent of its requirement.
