Plan for development of livestock sector demanded

The presidential candidate for forthcoming elections of FPCCI, Daroo Khan Achakzai has called for a workable plan for livestock development sector in the country.

KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Dec, 2018 ) :The presidential candidate for forthcoming elections of FPCCI, Daroo Khan Achakzai has called for a workable plan for livestock development sector in the country.

Achakzai, representing United Business Group (UBG) in a statement Monday claimed that Livestock sector was progressing well without the proper support of the authorities, however, government needed to focus on improving the productivity of the livestock sector.

Potential of the livestock sector, he said is often rendered under-utilized hence unable to cater the growing demand for milk and meat.

Pakistan is the fifth largest producer of milk in the world but the production of milk per animal is dismally low which can be improved by using modern techniques, he emphasized.

It was regretted that voice of dairy farmers seldom reach the government while attention towards the particular contributor to the national economy could help multiply production of milk, meat and hides to reduce prices at home and earn foreign exchange.

Daroo Khan Achakzai said that agriculture sector is one of the largest segments of the economy but its production, especially that of its livestock sub sector was very little for which a workable plan is needed.

The business leader said that Pakistan can easily become a leading producer and exporter of milk and meat through simple and efficient measures that can also boost the troubled leather sector.

Dairy and livestock were cited to be important sub sectors of agriculture that continues to register growth of three percent to four percent per annum despite lack of support from authorities.

Country was said to be exporting live animals to many countries while the gap between demand and supply steadily increasing hencecontributing to price hike.
