Japan-US Trade Talks to Exclude Currency Issues - Japanese Finance Minister

The Japanese-US trade talks will not touch upon currency issues, despite the remarks of the US side on a possible currency provision in future trade deals, Japanese Finance Minister Taro Aso said Tuesday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th October, 2018) The Japanese-US trade talks will not touch upon Currency issues, despite the remarks of the US side on a possible currency provision in future trade deals, Japanese Finance Minister Taro Aso said Tuesday.

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Saturday that the United States would like to add a chapter against currency manipulation in its future trade agreements, including with Japan.

"I know that Mr. Mnuchin said so, but there are no concrete discussions and dialogue taking place .

.. I understand that it is important for the US side to include the currency matters given the existing practice in the Congress, but, as a matter of fact, trade talks basically will not include currency issues," Aso said, as quoted by the NHK broadcaster.

According to Mnuchin, Washington wants to base currency chapters in future trade treaties on the relevant provision in the new agreement between the United States, Mexico, and Canada (USMCA).
