Reverse Engineering To Provide Modern Agri Machinery To
Farmers: Secretary Agriculture

MULTAN,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Augst,2016) -Secretary Agriculture Punjab Muhammad Mahmood Friday directed engineers of Agriculture Mechanization Research Institute (AMRI) to speed up reverse engineering process to adapt imported latest agriculturual machinery in accordance with local needs in Punjab. Presiding over a meeting at AMRI here, he directed officials to submit annual performance report of the research institution regularly to enable government assess its progress regarding goals and objectives. He ordered engineers to prepare agriculture machinery in accordance with the needs of the farmers and market demand. Secretary agriculture also assigned another task of farm machinery standardization to AMRI officials and added that a draft law would be prepared and these standards would be enforced after the law is passed. He said that AMRI engineers would soon be provided an Olive Oil extracting machine to modify it in accordance with the local needs to successfully carry out a Federal government project of promoting olive cultivation. Mahmood said that agriculture machinery should be prepared for all crops including fruits and vegetables to maximize farm mechanization and get enhanced agriculture production. He asked AMRI officials to find out which crops need immediate mechanised farming and in what areas.
"Research and development would be fruitful only when demand in the market exists and there are skilful persons who can operate and repair agriculture machinery.We need to extend skills to the people so that they can prepare machines in the market and extend benefit directly to farmers", he said. He advised them to proceed ahead with mechanization in accordance with varying needs of different zones including Potohar, central Punjab and South Punjab. He advised participants of the meeting to hold a consultative meeting with all the stakeholder to prepare a comprehensive plan giving preference to mechanization of such fruits and vegetables which were being exported in big quantity. He ordered preparation of machinery handling sowing and harvest of garlic and ginger to enhance their production and save foreign exchange being spent on their import. He advised AMRI engineers to involve manufacturers of agriculture machinery in the process. Director General agriculture (Field) Dr.
