Govt Prioritizing Quality Education, Raise Of Livestock Dept

The Punjab government is committed to uplift dairy, livestock sector and provide quality education to students for enabling them to compete at international level.
This was stated by Pro Chancellor and Minister for Livestock Punjab, Sardar Husnain Bahadur Dareshak while addressing the 10th convocation of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) held at City campus on Wednesday.
He said that Pakistan despite a big milk producing country still had least production. He said the country needed ideas from the UVAS like other rising institutions.
He congratulated the students on getting degrees and medals, and urged them to play their due role in nation building.
He said that livestock had great potential for growth and the present government was taking all out measures for providing safe and healthy livestock products to the masses with exportable surplus. He assured full cooperation of the UVAS for completing its tasks.
On this occasion, Vice Chancellor UVAS Prof Talat Naseer Pasha, in his address, spoke about the academics, research, development, extension programmes and community service of the university. He said that with a history of 136 years of excellence, the UVAS had now position among the top Asian universities as per the higher education.
In sports ranking 2018, the UVAS got third position among the public sector universities and fifth among all public and private universities of the country.
He informed that UVAS was also among top ten universities of the country according to the HEC overall ranking.
Pasha said the UVAS had already secured affiliation of the Association of American Veterinary Medical College and in the process of getting its accreditation.
He said the UVAS scientists were executing 141 research projects worth Rs 1.5 billion won by the faculty members from national and international finding agencies.
The university was also executing five developmental projects of worth Rs 4 billion and completed projects of Rs 882 million in the last financial year, he reiterated.
He said that noteworthy services were diagnostics facilties, vaccine production, 247 clinical and extension services and consultancy, advisory framework etc. He disclosed that UVAS had also imparted practical training to 7,244 officials from L&DD department.
Earlier, the Pro Chancellor along with VC gave away degree to 1,416 graduates and medals to 72 position holders.
Out of the graduating students, 230 were DVMs, 356 BS (Hons), 90 Pharm-D, 26 DND, 48 MBAs, 37 MBA (Hons), 193 MSc, 399 MPhil and 33 PhDs.
Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Livestock Faisal Hayat Jabwana and Secretary Livestock Muhammad Ahsan Waheed were also present.
