32nd SPELT Intl Conference 2016 Held At FJWU

RAWALPINDI, Nov 9 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 09th Nov, 2016 ) :- Two-day 32nd SPELT International Conference 2016, organized by Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) in collaboration with Society of Pakistan English Language Teachers (SPELT) and Oxford University Press has concluded.
The theme of the conference was Expanding English Language Teaching (ELT) Horizons which covered classroom practices, research in language teaching and learning and their relationship with each other.
The main objectives of the conference were enhancing the quality of English teaching, assessment and evaluation, improving quality of teacher education and training, promoting learner autonomy, narrowing gap between teachers and researchers, providing a professional forum for sharing and networking, reviewing role of English in the changing world, keeping teachers and ELT practitioners abreast with the latest developments in ELT world.
Vice Chancellor FJWU, Prof. Dr. Samina Amin Qadir. Dr. Mubina Tallat and Chair SPELT Islamabad Chapter was also present. The plenary speaker of the conference was Adrian Tennat who talked about the challenges teachers face in the 21st century, why teaching is different or can be different from the past and whether another concept arising in the West is transferable to other contexts.
Dr. Sarwet Rasul talked about the challenges in collecting and analyzing data in researching bilingualism. Prof. Dr. Samina Amin Qadir expressing her views appreciated the efforts of SPELT in promoting ELT in Pakistan.
She said that FJWU has always been collaborating with other organizations for the commencement of such national and international conferences to promote the culture of research and critical thinking in Pakistan.
She also assured that the university will always keep its networks open and functional. Saima Afzal, Conference Chair Islamabad said that teachers are the backbone of any country�s economy as they are the nation builders.
She hoped that the conference will help the teachers in opening new horizons in knowledge to be applied in their everyday teaching practices. The conference was attended by a large number of teachers and students from across the country.
