An anti-terrorism court on Friday sentenced a man to 17 years in jail on charges of attempted murder
KARACHI (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / NNI - 22nd March, 2019) An anti-terrorism court on Friday sentenced a man to 17 years in jail on charges of attempted murder.The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,50,000 on Ashraf alias Hashu.
The court ordered that the convict would have to serve 18 months more in jail if he fails to pay the fine.Hashu faced charges of looting citizens on a gun-point. Three witnesses including a medico-legal officer of a hospital had testified before the court against the convict.His accomplice, identified as Mubeen, has already been proclaimed offender by the ATC.
The criminal was arrested by the police on October 19, 2018 after a police encounter.Two weeks ago, the anti-terrorism court had awarded death sentence to a murder convict who was arrested by Rangers five years ago.
The convict was awarded death sentence in the light of evidences furnished by Rangers.
Sohail Ahmed Siddiqui belongs to terror outfit al-Qaeda, and he had also killed two foreigners.He was also awarded sentence for a bomb blast and his family was directed to pay Rs 200,000. Siddiqui was also given seven-year sentence for possessing illicit weapons.Rangers had arrested Sohail Ahmed Siddiqui from North Nazimabad area in 2014.
Explosives were also recovered from his possession.The paramilitary force had been arresting several hardened criminals and terrorists of banned outfits for years especially after crackdown on criminal elements couple of years ago. NNI
