Nawaz Sharif has also been informed of the court decision in Kot Lakhpat jail.
Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 14th January, 2019) The Supreme Court has rejected the appeal filed by the National Accountability Bureau challenging the Islamabad High Court decision to grant bail to Sharif family in the Avenfield reference.
A five-member larger bench of the Supreme Court heard the NAB’s plea.
Maryam Nawaz and her husband Captain (r) Safdar will continue to remain on bail.
Supreme Court Judge Justice Asif Saeed Khosa remarked that Nawaz Sharif is currently not a free man.
According to media reports, Maryam Nawaz listened to the SC decision at her Raiwind residence.
Upon the verdict in favour, the daughter of the former prime minister thanked Allah.
She said, “She is forever grateful to Allah Almighty and the Sharif family will soon pass through these tested times.”
On the other hand, Nawaz Sharif has also been informed of the court decision in Kot Lakhpat jail.
Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar were released from jail in September after the IHC suspended their sentences. They were sentenced by an accountability court in July after being found guilty of corrupt practices related to the ownership of four luxury flats in central London.
The IHC's division bench comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb allowed the petitions of the Sharif family members against the accountability court's judgment in the Avenfield reference.
The NAB had in October, 2018 moved the Supreme Court challenging the Islamabad High Court decision to grant bail to the Sharif family members in the Avenfield property reference.
NAB in its appeal pleaded the apex court that the high court did not correctly examine the evidence in the case and hence its decision was liable to be declared null and void.
