MULTAN, Nov 8 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 08th Nov, 2016 ) : Although many cinemas have been razed to the ground across the country mostly for building shopping plazas and theatres, yet a cinema owner here has converted it into a school.
Capri cinema, one of the beautiful cinemas of the city located on Azamat Wasti Road had been inoperative for quite some time. A private chain of schools has converted it into its Dera Adda branch, due to the parents who preferred an educational institution cum cinema for their kids.
Ex-Principal Government Post Graduate Civil Lines College, Prof Anwar Jamal termed it a wrong decision to convert an entertainment place in to a school. The psychology of the children studying in the school changed considering that they were getting education in a cinema, he added.
The acclaimed educationist claimed that the cinema owner wanted to mint money like other businessmen and he might have sub let it to a school with the same idea. When contacted, Executive District Officer, Community Development Mian Ghafoor said that as far as his knowledge goes, there was no provision to convert a cinema into a school.
It was astonishing that how the school and cinema owners made the deal. Action would be initiated against the cinema owner according to the law, he added. Executive District Officer Education, Ishfaq Gujjar said the department would check the school soon adding that they had not received any notification that a cinema could not be converted in to a school.
The cinema owner should have given the idea a second thought before handing it over to the school administration. A cinema owner, who wished not to be named, said that the business of cinema industry had swelled recently owing to making of some good movies in the country and attracting good number of cinema goers.
He said that there was no need to convert a cinema into a school because around a dozen cinemas were screening films in the city. He informed that out of the total 19 cinemas, some cinemas had been converted into theatres, while a few of these were non-operative.
