Civic information portal to educate masses on democratic process re-launched

An International Non-governmental Organization on Wednesday re-launched civic information portal to educate and sensitize the citizens on democratic process.

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Jul, 2018 ) :An International Non-governmental Organization on Wednesday re-launched civic information portal to educate and sensitize the citizens on democratic process.

Tabeer-DAI (Development Alternative Inc.) in collaboration with Centre for Peace and Development Initiative (CPDI) re-launch Pakvoter portal here at local Hotel in the concluding session of a three-day workshop organized to impart the training to journalists for general election coverage.

Speaking on the occasion, Senior Manager of CPDI Raja Shoiab Akbar said the idea to revamp this portal was conceived on doctrine of necessity as there was no such platform where one could get all the information regarding electoral processes at one place.

Raja informed the Pak-voter Civic Information Portal (CPI) was a comprehensive source of information related to Pakistani elections and the functioning of political and democratic institutions in the country.

Terming Pak-voter-CPI portal a one stop shop, he said, "It provides information on electoral processes, democratic functions and civic rights through creative and lucid audio-visual communications including videos, fact-sheets, info-graphics, blogs, newsletters and news media.

It would also serve as a repository of legal frameworks, political parties' manifestos and code of conduct, he added.

Informing about its categorized contents, Raja said, it would also offer contextualized content for women, youth and autistic as well as for religious and gender minorities.

He also expressed pleasure over the support, it garnered from the different organizations.

Amir Khan Goraya Programme Director of Tabeer said it would serve as a two-way communication window between public and policy makers and help bringing policy makers and public representatives in close proximity for a stronger and effective social accountability.

Goraya urged the participants of workshop for their suggestions as there would be some changes in its rules and functions in future.

It may be mentioned here that Pak-voter was operational since 2013, and originally developed by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems with support from the United Kingdom's Department for International Development.
