Forest deptt to seek Suparco help for GIS-based map of Multan green core

The Forest department Multan has requested Punjab high-ups to get help from Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) for Geographic Information System (GIS) based map of green core of Multan division to properly monitor and execute green Pakistan drive in its domain and achieve objectives.

MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Nov, 2018 ) :The Forest department Multan has requested Punjab high-ups to get help from Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) for Geographic Information System (GIS) based map of green core of Multan division to properly monitor and execute green Pakistan drive in its domain and achieve objectives.

Forest Conservator Multan Ishtiaq Ali Pervaiz told APP that Commissioner Imran Sikandar Baloch, in a meeting few days back, had directed him to prepare GIS-based map of green core of Multan division following which he had sent a letter to chief forest conservator (M&E) Punjab with the request to seek help from Suparco for the purpose.

He added that GIS laboratory of the forest department was working under the control of chief forest conservator (M&E) and that the department always seek assistance from Suparco whenever they need forests' images to execute plans in pursuit of their objectives of expanding forest area.

He said that green core of Multan means forest area in Multan division and the greenery developed by private persons and departments in urban settled areas and suburbs.

He said that the GIS based map would help them properly monitor the green Pakistan activities, safeguarding forests and improve them further.

It may be noted that the department has got 34 acre land vacated from land grabbers and planted 171,648 saplings during 100 days and the process of planting more saplings was in progress and their record being maintained properly.

The saplings planted were being given proper care for their growth, Ishtiaq said.
