LAHORE- (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News- 8th May 2019) Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has entered the premises of Kot Lakhpat Jail after midnight.
In a brief message to PML-N workers, he once again endorsed his narrative and said people of Pakistan knew why he was being victimized.
He said he will soon come out of jail, asking his followers to continue praying for him. He said the struggle of PML-N workers would soon bear fruit.
The ousted PM, who was on a six weeks bail granted by the Supreme Court for medical treatment, earlier left his Raiwind House after Iftar (fast-breaking time) at around 8 pm for jail along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif, his nephew Hamza Shehbaz, PML-N leaders including Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Parvez Rasheed and a large number of party workers.
He covered some 20km long distance in four hours as charged workers continued chanting slogans in his favor. His caravan received a warming welcome at different stops from Raiwind to Kot Lakhpat. PML-N workers threw rose petals on his vehicle and shouted “Wazer-e-Azam (prime minister) Nawaz Sharif slogans.
His daughter Maryam who was along with Nawaz in his vehicle posted different tweets and videos, thanking the party workers and vowing to continue ‘struggle for civilian supremacy in the country.’ There was a top trend “Jhuka nhe Nawaz Sharif” (Nawaz has not bowed) on the twitter.
Nawaz younger brother and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif who is currently in London for medical treatment announced that he will soon come back and he also ‘appreciated Nawaz stance and standing for democracy and people right.’
Earlier, Kot Lakhpat Jail's superintendent had said that "since Nawaz did not report back to jail in time, the lockup has been closed for the night and jail authorities will now not receive him." But, he was later allowed entry.
On April 30, Nawaz had filed an application in the apex court seeking an extension in his six-week bail. The application had called for an extension in bail until the verdict on his review petition concerning a March 26 order, through which Nawaz sought permission to leave the country. The apex court had rejected the extension.
