Need To Set Realistic Targets For Economic Growth Highlighted

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Jan, 2017 ) : Punjab Advisor on Economic Affairs Dr Ijaz Nabi has said there is a need to design a series of economic reports based upon facts and figures to achieve consistent economic growth in the province.
He was addressing the Consultative Session on Punjab Economic Report 2016 organized by the Punjab Economic Research Institute P&D at P&D Complex, here on Friday. Chairman P&D Jahanzeb Khan, Former Federal secretary Ismail Qureshi, Former chairman P&D Sohail Ahmad, Secretary Industry Mujtaba Paracha, Dr Iqrar Khan VC Agriculture University Faisalabad, Director PERI P&D Dr Mumtaz, Prof Dr Turab Hussain from LUMS University, Members P&D board Dr.
Shabana Haider, Agha Waqar Javed, Dr Abid Bodla, Mukhtar Naul, senior representative of World Bank, senior officers of Punjab Government attended the session. With regards to the Punjab Growth Strategy, Ijaz Nabi mentioned the need to have realistic targets for the sustainable economic growth.
"One of the objectives of the Punjab Growth Strategy had been to augment the limited resources of the government with Public Private Partnership", he said.
Jehanzeb Khan Chairman Planning and Development Board highlighted the commitment of the Punjab government in achieving the objectives of the Punjab Growth Strategy.
He mentioned that the foremost challenge faced by the P&D Department was policy prescription and the present document should be an aid in this. He appreciated the consistent efforts put in by Planning and Development Department Punjab to ensure the alignment of all the projects with the objectives of the Punjab Growth Strategy.
He also appreciated the efforts made by Punjab Economic Research Institute for its consistent efforts to initiate the PED 2016 report. He hoped that this report will act as an impetus for all stakeholders to align their efforts towards achieving the objectives of the Punjab Growth Strategy.
The objective of this session was to solicit the feedback of stakeholders involved in the planning and policy-making of the province.
