PAC Sub-Committee Seeks Briefing On Electricity Issues

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Nov, 2016 ) : The Sub-Committee of Public Accounts Committee Thursday while expressing displeasure over power distribution companies performance sought a detailed briefing on electricity issues next week.
The committee which met with Sardar Ashiq Hussain Gopang in chair reviewed Water and Power Ministry and its attached departments audit paras for fiscal year 2009-10. The committee directed to give detailed briefing about transformer theft, over billing, fine, out dated transmission lines and transfers and appointments policy.
The sub-committee deferred eight audit paras as these were pending in courts or National Accountability Bureau. An Audit official apprised the panel that a person on fake degree managed to get director public relations.
Secretary Water and Power Muhammad Younus Daga told that the persons was employee of city government Karachi and he was behind the bar. Case was pending before the court, he added. The Audit official told gloves worth Rs.1.7 million were purchased in violation of rules in 2008 after re-tendering.
The Secretary said proper inquiry was conducted in the said issue. However, no rule was violated in this regard. The first tendered was terminated as no company was fulfilling the required criteria, he added. The meeting was attended by MNA Shahida Akhtar Ali and other senior officials the meeting.
