Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Directs Postal Services To Submit A Proposal Of Public Private Partnership

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday directed Ministry of Postal Services to submit a proposal of public private partnership plan with PAC before any joint collaboration within two weeks
ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Mar, 2018 ) :The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday directed Ministry of Postal Services to submit a proposal of public private partnership plan with PAC before any joint collaboration within two weeks.
The committee met here at Parliament House under the chairmanship of MNA Syed Khursheed Shah, chairman of the committee. The meeting was also attended by MNAs including Dr. Arif Alvi, Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Molana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, Dr.
Azra Fazal Pechicho, Shafqat Mahmood, Syed Ghulam Mutafa Shah, Raja Muhammad Javed Ikhlas, Syed Kazim Ali Shah, Shahida Akhtar Ali, Rana Afzal Hussain, Abdul Rasheed Godil and Parvaiz Ilahi. The committee would examine the proposal and give approval keeping in view the interest of people and country, adding that the committee willing to process any project transparently.
Secretary Ministry of Postal Services Saqib Aziz and other senior officials briefed the committee regarding privatization of Pakistan Post.
The official said that there is no such advertisement published in the press for privatization of Pakistan Post, adding that there are public private partnership projects under Reform agenda of Pakistan Post principally approved by competent authority for which advertisements were floated separately for obtaining express of interests.
The committee was informed that Pakistan Post total budget 2017-18 were Rs.17,552.890 million, adding that Pakistan Post remained self supporting entity from 1998-99 to 2008-09. The officials said that the main reason of deficit is increase in pay, allowances and pension benefits by government to employees from time to time since year 2009-10 onwards, adding that postal tariff last revised after about nine 02-11-2009 and rise in prices of commodities and services during the last few years also reason of deficit.
The committee also takes up the audit reports regarding ministry of Commerce.
