Supreme Court rejects NAB plea against ex-ETO's bail

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd May, 2019 ) :The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday rejected the petition filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) seeking cancellation of the bail of accused former Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) Quetta in a forgery case.

Former ETO Ulfat Nasim was accused of registering non-custom paid vehicles on fake documents.

The court while upholding the penalty of Rs 30,000 against the accused ordered him to pay the amount within a month or otherwise, he would have to spend six months in jail.

During the course of proceedings, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Asif Saeed Khosa remarked that it was a 17 years old case.

NAB's additional prosecutor apprised the court that Ulfat Nasim had registered five vehicles without verification. Their documents were fake, he added.

The CJP observed that exercising maximum care must for the officers. "We also exercise care too while sitting here. Irregularity (in vehicles' registration) cannot take place without involvement of a registration officer."He remarked that an unprecedented business of vehicles was being carried out in Balochistan. When the operation was underway in the province then a chit was given to the owners of vehicles to run freely.
