US Consul General Meets Punjab Minister For Labour

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Dec, 2017 ) :US Consul General in Lahore Elizabeth Kennedy Trudeau called on Punjab Minister for Labour & Human Resource Raja Ashfaq Sarwar at his office, here on Thursday.
Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary (South and Central Asian Affairs) David Ranz was also present on the occasion. During the meeting, different matters of mutual interest including promotion of Pak-US relations and control on the issue of human trafficking along with welfare of the labour community came under discussion.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the provincial government had taken effective steps to control human-trafficking and added that provincial government was in continuous contact with the Federal government so that the menace could be eradicated with effective utilisation of relevant laws.
He apprised the US consul general about the steps taken for promotion of education in the province and added that the Punjab government had opened the doors of education on children belonging to low-income groups and private sector has been involved in the process of providing free education to the children from lower income groups.
He said that more than 2.5 million most deserving male and female students are getting school education through the platform of the Punjab Education Foundation. The Punjab government has also started educational endowment fund to enable the talented but less privileged students to continue their education in the institutions of higher education.
Meanwhile, Daanish school system is very beneficial for disfranchised communities at the grassroots. The Punjab government has also started a programme to provide free schooling facilities to the children of brick-kiln workers.
Under this programme, school uniform, books, shoes as well as monthly stipend is provided to the students to motivate the families to send their children to the schools. The Punjab government is committed to ensuring that no child is left unattended as education is the fundamental right of every child.
The reforms of the Punjab government has also been acknowledged by the world community at different forums, concluded the minister. On the occasion, the US delegation appreciated the labour friendly vision of the Punjab government and assured of their cooperation in this regard.
