The irony of ‘justice’ in India where animal-killer arrested but human killer made PM

Lahore (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Apr, 2018 ) In a somewhat surprising verdict from an Indian court on Thursday, Bollywood actor Salman Khan was sentenced for five years in jail. The arrest left the fans around the world in a shock as the case was as old as 20 years.

Imagine justice being delivered after 20 years, that too, for killing an ‘animal’ when the gun was probably not even in the actor’s hand. He is the bad boy of Bollywood, fine but there are other many heinous crimes which go unpunished in the so-called democratic state of India.

A prime example of this ironical justice is that of the killing of around 1000 Muslims in Gujarat in 2002, when the infamous Narendra Modi was serving as its chief minister. Instead of punishing Modi for the bloody massacre, this anti-Muslim rhetoric led him to become the prime minister of the country.

The rise of populism is also attributed to the election of right-wing extremists like Modi to lead the country of ethnically, religiously and culturally diverse India as a prime minister. Not to mention the barbaric attitude towards Muslims in present day India where they are not allowed to even eat cow meat.

This is the country where one is punished for killings animals but made prime minister for killing human Such is the irony of justice in India that claims itself to be an Asian tiger and rising super power where human are not safe but animals are, because animals are worthy of worship but human are not worthy of living.

The world is witness to the human rights violations in Occupied Kashmir at the hands of Indian forces where the use of pellet guns and killing of unarmed civilians is not considered a crime while the country is also notorious for having the highest ratio of rape cases in the region.

Not only that, there is a long list of incidents of ruthless killings in Indian history, including the burning of Samjhota Express and the demolition of Babri Mosque. Nobody was even tried in these cases, what to talk of sentencing them to jail or death.

At the same time, the very people are made to enter corridors of power to pursue their brutal policies. In such a scenario, a star having contracts of billions is sentenced to jail but the murderer of hundreds of people poses to be the champion of human rights sitting in the prime minister office. Such is the irony of justice in India that can never shine despite shining!
