Russias Grain Harvest Fell by Over 20% Year-on-Year Basis - Agricultural Ministry

The Russian grain harvest has dropped by 21.6 percent when compared to last year's results as manufacturers have processed slightly over 69 million tonnes of grain, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture said on Friday.

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th August, 2018) The Russian grain harvest has dropped by 21.6 percent when compared to last year's results as manufacturers have processed slightly over 69 million tonnes of grain, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture said on Friday.

According to the ministry, the crop yield as of August 17 stands at 3,100 kilograms per hectare. So far, cereals and beans have been processed on the area of 22.258 million hectares, which is 47.9 percent of the total harvest area.

In particular, 52.8 million tonnes of wheat and 10.5 million of barley have been harvested as of Friday.

In the same period in 2017, Russia managed to process 70.7 million tonnes of grains from almost 17.8 million hectares, the ministry noted.

The Russian Ministry of Agriculture has repeatedly lowered its grain harvest forecast for 2018 due to unfavorable weather conditions. In 2017, Russia enjoyed a record-high harvest of 135.4 million, while in 2016 it stood at 120.7 million.
