Punjab Educational Institutions To Be Affiliated With University Of Same Division: Minister

Punjab Minister for Higher Education, Yasir Humayun Tuesday said that the colleges and university campuses would be bound to be affiliated with the universities of the relevant division and prevailing system would be soon reviewed in this regard.
In an exclusive chat with APP here, "the minister said that provincial government would not allow to any educational institution to get affiliation with any university out of its division." The current affiliation system of the colleges and sub-campuses of the universities would be amended as per suggested plan to facilitate students and speed up operations in both public and private sectors.
The universities were existing in all divisions of the Punjab except Rawalpindi and DG Khan, the minister said adding that feasibility report has been tabled in the budget for the establishment of two divisional universities in these remaining areas.
"The provincial government would achieve maximum targeted goals in education sector by next five years in the province.The performance of colleges already established at Punjab level would be improved rather than to focus on building new ones" he told.
He said that two years BA/BSC programmes at more than 700 colleges at Punjab level would be converted into the four years BS programmes by 2020.
The minister said the provincial government would establish standard community schools across the province in which low grade marks students would be accommodated to carry on their education.
Emphasizing the need of Information and Communication Technology usage in modern hour, the provincial minister said that the classes at college level would be taken by the lecturers through video links. This facility would be provided in those colleges having no lecturer in any specific subject and services of other institutions would be engaged in this regard, he added. .
The minister said that state-of-the-art- smart colleges would be established across the province in first phase around four colleges would be established in North Punjab, Lahore, Chakwal and DG Khan.
While lauding the role of present chief of Federal Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr Tariq Banuri, the minister said due to his (Banuri's) proactive role the issues of provincial and federal HEC's were resolved and there was a cordial working environment now.
Yasir said the authority of degrees' verification would remain HEC's prerogative.
He said that a credit hour system would also be introduced to facilitate the students of higher education which would enable them to migrate from one university to other and could also transfer their subjects.
