Road Map Prepared To Improve Quality Of Higher Education: Minister

Provincial Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun Friday said that a roadmap had been prepared to improve the quality of higher education in the province.
During his visit to Government College University old and new campus here, he said that reforms would be introduced for government universities in the province to improve their ranking at international level.
He said the government was focusing on provision of higher education opportunities to youth near their homes and in this regard, steps were being taken for expansion of higher education facilities.
He said that promotion of objective and quality education was a priority of the government.
The minister went to different educational blocks of old and new campus of GC University and directed to improve the educational environment. He also visited auditorium, library, residential colony and admin blocks.
He noticed a complaint about illegal occupation on residential colony in new campus and found it baseless.
Later, the minister visited the press club and informed the newsmen about government priorities for development and promotion of higher education.
He said that community college system was being introduced in Punjab province for imparting modern education to students in two years college life.
He said that higher education was ignored by the past government, adding that promotion of quality higher education was imperative for development and progress of any nation.
He said that under higher education road map, minimum one university at division level would be brought in the list of international level universities and they would be provided funds according to their ranking.
The minister said that raids would be conducted on those colleges exhorting only fee from students on the name of education, adding the colleges which would not fulfill the conditions of higher education commission would not be allowed to run their colleges. In this regard, legislation was also being made, the minister said.
The services of education scholars would be hired from abroad for improving the education standard in universities according to international level, he said.
He said that steps would be taken to stop affiliation of large amount of colleges with universities under which the universities would grant affiliation to those colleges fell in that division where university located.
He said that establishment of financial aid authority was under consideration for provision of resources to talented deserving students for higher education.
To a question, the minister said the government was planning to establish Punjab tourism authority for promotion of economic activities and increase the income in tourism sector.
He said that Punjab tourism policy had been prepared under which 8 new tourism spots had been identified in tehsil Kotri Seetan, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, and other areas besides development of existing tourism sites.
He said that a development programme was being launched for making attraction and preserving the tourism spots according to their regional culture.
He assured that the demand of journalist housing colony in Faisalabad would be discussed with the Punjab government.
