ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jan, 2019 ) :In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown is being observed in Gaw Kadal and others areas of Srinagar on Monday, to mark the anniversary of Gaw Kadal massacre.
According to Kashmir Media Service, call for the shutdown has been given by the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.
The JRL has also called for a march towards Gaw Kadal to hold a public meeting.
All shops and other business establishments are closed in Gaw Kadal, Basant Bagh, Kani-Kadal, Chota-Bazaar, Budshah Chowk and others areas while traffic is off the road.
Indian troops had killed more than 50 innocent people in Gaw Kadal area of Srinagar on this day in 1990 by opening indiscriminate fire on peaceful demonstrators who were protesting against the molestation of several women by the troops on the previous night.
The JRL in a statement issued in Srinagar termed the Gaw Kadal massacre as the worst example of Indian state terrorism in occupied Kashmir.
The statement said that united India during its struggle for freedom from Britain had witnessed only one Jalianwala Bagh massacre but the Kashmiri people have witnessed dozens of such incidents carried out by the Indian forces since 1990 and this killing spree was still going on unabated.
