Dr Hasan Askari Takes Oath As Punjab Caretaker CM

ECP had named Professor Dr Hassan Askari as the caretaker chief minister of Punjab on Thursday

Lahore (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 8th June, 2018) Professor Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi has taken oath as caretaker chief minister of Punjab.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at Punjab Governor House.

Punjab Governor Rafique Rajwana administered oath to the caretaker chief minister.

Talking to media after the ceremony, the interim Punjab chief minister said that he will accomplish the mission given by Election Commission and the Constitution of Pakistan.

About the provincial cabinet, he said it will be short and members will be appointed on merit. A woman minister is also expected to be a part of the cabinet.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had named Professor Dr Hassan Askari as the caretaker chief minister of Punjab on Thursday after the failure of parliamentary committee to reach consensus over the proposed candidates.

In a press conference held hours after the ECP chose Dr Askari for the interim slot, PML-N leaders voiced their reservations over his selection and called on the Commission to review its decision.

Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who was succeeded by Justice (r) Nasirul Mulk as the caretaker premier last Friday, said Dr Askari's appointment as the caretaker Punjab CM would cast doubt over transparency in the upcoming general election.
