Forestation Drive Kicked Off In South Waziristan

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Augst,2016) : Political administration of South Waziristan has launched plantation drive in the agency during which about 350,000 saplings will be planted till December. According to in charge of the agency agriculture department Abdul Baseer, 50,000 saplings had so far been distributed among farmers and tribesmen in different areas of the agency,private news channel reported.
During the plantation drive, those areas would be focused where the displaced people had returned to their homes. Abdul Baseer said three distribution points have been established at Tank, Wana and Sararogha while every returning family will be given 100 to 200 saplings for forestation.
He added awareness seminars would also be arranged to inform general masses about the importance of forest and plantation drive.
He further informed that different types of plants would be distributed among the tribesmen during the drive. "We have constituted a committee to interact with farmers and local people and urge them to grow more plants. We have also arranged workshops to impart training to the locals how to protect and manage forests," he maintained.
