Journalist Panel Wins RIUJ Elections

ISLAMABAD, Feb 1 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 01st Feb, 2017 ) : Journalist Panel has swept the Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) Elections 2017 with Afzal Butt and Ali Raza Alivi clinching the slots of president and general secretary, respectively.
Polling for the RIUJ office-bearers for the one-year term was held on Tuesday in which as many as 1409 journalists exercised their right to vote. The Election Committee Chairman, veteran journalist Iqbal Jaffri announced the results late Tuesday night.
Afzal Butt and Ali Raza Alivi bagged 872 and 789 votes and their rivals Sheharyar Khan and Shakeel Qarar of Azad Panel obtained 506 and 597 votes for the posts of president and general secretary respectively.
Journalist Panel's Nasir Hashmi was elected as senior vice president by obtaining 854 votes and Sagheer Chaudhry vice president by getting 765 votes.
Similarly Asghar Chaudhry of Journalist Panel got 835 votes to become finance secretary while his opponent Shahid Sara of Azad Panel bagged 404 votes.
Javed Soomro and Khalid Gardezi of Journalist Panel were elected joint secretaries with 862 and 735 votes respectively. Following candidates of Journalist Panel were elected as members of Governing Body of RIUJ: Aamir Abbasi (981 votes), Asim Yasin (858 votes), Fahim Abbasi (844 votes), Mudassar Raja (839 votes), Shahzia Nayyer (891 votes), Samar Abbas (890 votes), Talat Farooq (799 votes), Tariq Virk (802 votes), Waheed Rasool (763 votes) and Zain Hashmi (810 votes).
