LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jan, 2017 ) : The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday suspended a notice, issued by the Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA), for recovery of Rs 1.25 billion Sales Tax from Wateen Telecom.
Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh passed the orders on a petition, filed by the Wateen Telecom challenging the PRA notice for payment of the sales tax. The court also sought reply from the Federal and Punjab governments and the PRA till February 14.
During the course of hearing, Wateen's counsel Kaleem Ilyas submitted that the PRA had issued a notice to his client for recovery of Rs 1.
25 billion sales tax. The counsel, questioning formation of the PRA, contended that only the federal government was empowered to recover the sales tax on telecom services whereas the PRA did not have any power in this regard.
He pleaded with the court to set aside the notice as that was issued without any authority. The court, after hearing initial arguments, suspended the notice and sought reply from the respondents till Feb 14. APP/syh/rsd/rn 18:19/18:30/18:30
