Massive Traffic Jams Make Lives Of Swatis Miserable, Traffic Warden System Not Delivering

Traffic jam has become routine as long queues of vehicles were seen on various roads of Mingora city including Shahdara to people Chowk, Nishat Chowk to Taj Cowk and Kanju to Nawekaly Chowk.
The three kilometers distance is covered in hours due to continuous traffic jam in the city while traffic warden system failed to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
Motorists and commuters in public transport remained stuck for hours to reach their destinations.
According to the available statistics, more than three lacs registered vehicles, 10 thousand registered rickshaws are plying on roads in the city. While exact figure of unregistered vehicles, rickshaws and public transports vehicles were not known.
To control the smooth flow of traffic, around 250 traffic wardens were deployed in the entire district.
Manzor Kamal 27, an educationist sharing his views, said that people are faced with wastage of time and resources besides nervous due to traffic jams. We stuck in traffic for couple of hours on roads daily while the traffic wardens have failed to control the situation, he said.
Another Saqib 45, a shopkeeper said that during emergency if someone needs to reach hospital how can it be possible when roads leading to hospital are completely choked for hours.
It is pertinent to mention here that every month, Swat traffic police submits around 9.5 million rupees to government exchequer but in reward, the locals still facing the problem of traffic jam.
When contacted Incharge Swat traffic police Wazir Hussain, he said that Mingora is divisional headquarter and business hub for the entire division and people from all seven districts come on daily basis whereas the city roads have no capacity to bear excessive load of vehicles.
He said that 250 traffic wardens were deputed in the district to control the flow of traffic and myself is supervising traffic all day. Answering to a question, he said that our operation has already started against the unregistered vehicles and rickshaws.
The local people have appealed to DIG Malakand Saeed Wazir and DPO Ishfaq Anwer to help resolve the issue of frequent traffic jams so that the public stress can be decreased.
