PRCS Arranged Event To Mark Earth Day

Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in collaboration with German Red Cross on Monday arranged a day-long event with theme of 'Protect Our Species' to celebrate International Earth Day
He said "due to various human activities, we can see the global destruction and rapid reduction of plant and wildlife populations resulting in climate change, deforestation, habitat loss, trafficking and poaching, unsustainable agriculture, pollution and pesticides".
He said that Pakistan Red Crescent will play its due role to make earth clean and safe.
He said that plastic bags should be banned as they cause pollution , adding that plastic bags can prove to be a choke hazard for small animals and peopleHe said "We must work together to protect endangered and threatened species like bees, coral reefs, elephants, giraffes, insects, whales and more".
Programme Manager, Syed Shah Kazmi said that there must be educational campaigns to raise awareness about the accelerating rate of extinction of millions of species.
He said that for healthy environment it is necessary to protect broad groups of species as well as individual species and their habitats.
He asked to encourage individual actions such as adopting plant based diet and stopping pesticide and herbicide use.Later, 16 participants were awarded with shields and certificates.
