Supreme Court (SC) Wednesday sough detailed report from Punjab Government regarding establishing a cement industry, its manufacturing and causes environmental pollution in such areas

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Dec, 2017 ) :Supreme Court (SC) Wednesday sough detailed report from Punjab Government regarding establishing a cement industry, its manufacturing and causes environmental pollution in such areas.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib also directed Best Way Cement Factory to fill drying out Katas Temple Pond, Chakwal within seven days, while hearing a suo moto notice in connection with drying out of Temple.

During the course of proceedings, the bench expressed annoyance over non-appearance of counsel for Best Way Cement Factory, however its representative was there and on bench query he aprised the court that "factory consumes 80 thousand galan water per day which was its legal He".

He informed the bench that owner of the factory lives in London so for getting guidance and hiring counsel more time was required. Chief Justice remarked that these cement industries were responsible for environmental pollution, court let not allow them to play with lives of people which causing cancers and respiratory diseases.

Meanwhile Chairman Evacuee Trust Property board, Sadiqui ul Farooq submitted reply in compliance with earlier court orders. In his reply he stated that "no worship offers in Hannu man and Shri Ram Temples adding are now National Heritage".

He stated that when Babri Masjid was martyred then "Murtis" were picked up from Temples later authority requested local Hindus leaders even Indian Government to give Murtis for Temples but no one entertained the request.

To avoid from outrage and dishonour such temples had been remained close as wild animals could disgrace the holy places, he added. Since 2006, complete control of Katas Raj Temple was handed over to the heritage department, Farooq added that" idols 'shivling' are available in those temples where people worship".

Subsequently, the bench adjourned further hearing of the case to date in office. Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had taken suo moto notice of drying out of National Heritage of Katas Temple Pond.

The pre-historic fabled pond is said to be drying out because of huge amount of water consumption in cement factories. The factories are reportedly sucking water through more than hundred drill bores, which have severely reduced the subsoil water level.

Besides this the position that owing to absence of proper water supply for the local areas of Katas Waulah and city Choa Saidan Shah, almost every home is sucking the water by boring. The problem is raised by un-reasonable plantation of eucalyptus trees in the region.
