Very High Flood Likely In Jhelum Likely In Next 24 Hour

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Augst,2016) : The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said sharp peaks of high to very high flood Level are expected in River Jhelum at Mangla during the next 24 hours while river Indus is flowing in Low Flood at Kalabagh, Chashma and Guddu Barrage.

According to daily FFC report, other main rivers including Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normal. The river flows and reservoir elevations indicates that Tarbela & Mangla reservoirs are at elevations of 1530.65 feet and 1239.35 feet respectively, which are 19.35 feet & 2.65 feet below their respective Maximum Conservation Levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet.

The combined live storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma & Mangla reservoirs is 12.643 MAF as compared to last year's 13.551 MAF. According to Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, yesterday's Monsoon Low over North Bay of Bengal has intensified, converted into Depression and lies over West Bengal.

Monsoon Low Pressure Area continues to prevail over Eastern Rajasthan (India) and adjoining Western Madhya Pradesh (India), whereas yesterday's trough of Westerly Wave still persists over Kashmir and adjoining areas.

Seasonal Low lies over Northern Balochistan. Moderate moist current is penetrating into upper parts of the country upto 5000 feet. As predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, scattered thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls and one or two very heavy falls is expected over the upper catchments of Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi & Sutlej during the next 24 hours.

Scattered thunderstorm/rain may also occur over the upper catchments of River Indus including Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore & Bahawalpur Divisions, besides, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Peshawar, Kohat & D.

Khan Divisions) and Northeastern Balochistan during the same period, which may generate flash flood flows in local nullahs (the tributaries of Rivers Chenab & Ravi) and Hill Torrents of D.G. Khan & Kohat Divisions during the next 24 hours.

Scattered thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls and one or two very heavy falls is expected over the upper catchments of all major rivers including Northern & Northeastern Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during 11 th - 13th August 2016, which may generate flash flood flows in local nullahs (the tributaries of Rivers Chenab & Ravi) and Hill Torrents of D.G.

Khan & Kohat Divisions. The current spell of rainfall is likely to decrease from 13th August 2016. All concerned authorities are advised to remain ALERT, watch the situation closely and take all necessary precautionary measures in order to avoid loss of human lives and damage to private and public property.
