Clouds hovering the sky following early morning showers did turn the weather more pleasant for the day, however, as per forecast there may be drizzle but no more rains during rest of the 24 hours.

Karachi till 10 o'clock was reported to had received 20mm to 31mm in different parts.

"Another spell is, however, expected on Jan 29 and 30 due to low air pressure in the coming days," senior meteorologist associated with Pakistan Meteorological Department's Karachi centre, Rashid Ahmed told APP.

In reply to a question, he said that rains having lowered the temperatures in Karachi will turn weather chilly and cold winds may be a challenge for many of the people, particularly the motorcyclists.

The first shower for the current winters commenced Sunday evening, with lighting and thunder, that otherwise is quite unusual for many of the citizens.

The Met Department in its forecast for Karachi on Saturday had mentioned possible rains for two consecutive rains (Sunday and Monday) and as the weather turned cloudy during first half of Sunday many preferred to reach sea view and other beaches.

"We did not expect heavy rain with thunder and lighting but thanks God we had it after a long time as it may end the rampant dryness causing certain health conditions," said Samina Asif, a house wife.

Office goers and daily wage earners did face difficulties as public transport was largely not available while many of the school buses and van drivers also preferred not to pick students.

Those driving their personal vehicles had to brave through wading waters inundating many of the major thoroughfares, yet pleasant surprise was presence of KMC/DMC workers busy handling the situation despite their respective limitations.

Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah in his early morning directives to the concerned authorities have sought immediate draining of water and cleaning of water drains to ensure early and easy flow of water into the sea.

Citizens did complain that indifference of authorities towards regular cleaning of rain and storm drains and prompt removal of solid waste has turned citizens to series of hazardous risks, in particular context of health and hygiene.

"Health and hygiene do come low in our priorities," said senior doctor Prof Abdul Ghaffar Billoo and lamented that the situation at individual as well as collective levels were little different.

Karachi Electricity (KE) spokesman confirming power failure in certain neighbourhoods of the metropolis said it has been fully restored with absolute vigilance so prevent any recurrence.

Late night rains did leave behind casualties as two instances of electrocution were reported from Ajmer Nagri and Korangi.

Medical Officers of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Sindh Government Hospital confirmed deaths of Nabi Buksh and Rahim Shah due to their exposure to live wires.
